The Heavy Murph 2024 Open, with took place April 4–10, delivered another thrilling competition, with neck-and-neck races in both donor categories that went right down to the wire.
The top spot in the men’s donor category was hotly contested. Garet Hil established an early lead, but on the last full day of the competition, Thomas Sullivan took over the top spot with his first attempt. Garet submitted a new attempt, beating Thomas’s score and recapturing the top spot with his 445-rep effort, putting Thomas in second place with 425 reps. Mike Ramsey rounded out the top three with 416 reps.
The women’s donor category is always competitive, and this event was no exception. Emmy Spencer Probasco’s first effort of 505 reps put her in first place, with Mimi Mahon’s first attempt only a few reps behind. Mimi then submitted a second attempt, vaulting her into first place. On the last day of the competition, both Emmy and Mimi submitted new attempts, only to be bested by a last-minute assault on the lead by Roni Hays, who submitted her first attempt just under the wire on Wednesday evening to take first place with 572 reps. Mimi’s second attempt of 569 reps earned her second place, and Emmy’s second attempt took the third-place spot with 542 reps.
Wilson Du represented the men’s transplant recipient division with 326 reps using a modified workout, and Merrill Walker took the women’s transplant recipient division with 260 reps, also using a modified workout.
In the general women’s category, Donor Games newcomer Mary Fisher took first place with 668 reps, Francheska Delgado Peraza took second with 608 reps, and Abigail Lauters took third with 513 reps.
In the general men’s category, Nick Bahr, who took the top podium spot in his first Donor Games event, the Fran Workout 2024 Open, repeated the feat in this event, taking first place with 629 reps. With his second attempt, Donor Games newcomer Mason Holmes took second place with 602 reps, beating out top-ranked CrossFitter Tony Lauters, who earned third place with 561 reps.
The U.S. Defense Department was well-represented, with veterans from all branches competing for the first time:
