The Hawkins Workout 2021 Open ran from July 20–28 and featured: 10 rounds of 20 hand release push-ups, 30 air squats and 40 sit-ups with a total time limit of 2 hours.
We had 37 athletes participate, the most we have seen thus far. The top two overall finishers in ALL categories were women:
- Brandy Young from Tennessee, with a blazing time of 27:54. This was Brandy’s first time competing in the Donor Games.
- Annie Landeen was within a minute of Brandy’s time with an amazing 28:45 finish! Notably, Annie is a transplant coordinator at Hartford Hospital here in Connecticut.
We had a great showdown in the living donor women’s category. All competitors played their cards close to the chest and turned in their videos right at the end, adding a dash of suspense to the Games.
Roni Hays edged into first place after submitting her demo, but then Mimi Mahon, who has podiumed in all four previous Open competitions, took first place with a last-minute submission of 33:30 to seal the deal.
Our own Garet Hil was the overall top men’s finisher with a time of 29:51, demonstrating that donating a kidney does not negatively impact a person’s health or physical capacity.
Scott Claybrook, a repeat podium finisher, took first place in the transplant recipient men’s division with a time of 38:38 and Perry Davis edged out Matt Winland in the general men’s division to take first place with a time of 35:05.
