The National Kidney Registry will hold the second annual Donor Games Championship on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Affinity Athletics in Stamford, Connecticut.
This year’s Donor Games Championship is by invitation only, with the majority of competitors being kidney donor athletes. Several kidney transplant recipients and transplant industry professionals will also compete. All competitors will be required to complete three separate workouts in order to be eligible for a prize: The Grace Workout (30 clean and jerks for time), 3-Rep Trap Bar Deadlift (the maximum weight competitors are able to lift from the ground to hip level 3 times consecutively) and the Murph Workout (10 rounds of 10 pull-ups, 20 hand release push-ups and 30 air squats bracketed by two 1-mile runs). The top five male and female finishers will win cash prizes from $1,000 to $5,000.
In a general population survey, 80% of respondents felt that donating a kidney would negatively affect their health. The Donor Games Championship refutes this widely held misconception by showcasing the impressive health and fitness of donors from around the country.
“Donating a kidney is not only an amazing experience and a life-saving gift, it has no negative impact on physical fitness and athletic performance,” said Michael Lollo, NKR Chief Operating Officer and living kidney donor. “All of the kidney donor athletes who will compete in our second Championship event are amazing competitors and high-performance athletes who decided to change someone else’s life by donating a kidney. Watching them compete will be an inspiration for all of us.”
