The Mitch Workout 2022 Open took place June 22 to 29. Competitors had two minutes to complete a maximum number of unbroken bench press reps at a designated weight (185 lbs for men, 95 lbs for women). At or prior to the two-minute mark, athletes began performing strict unbroken pull-ups. The athlete’s score was the sum of the bench press reps and the pull-up reps.
The Mitch Workout 2022 Open delivered another exciting competition, with last-minute submissions resulting in a leaderboard that was shuffling up until the very end.
While most categories got off to a slow start, the donor men’s competition started with a bang—just 3 days into the event, 5 athletes were tightly clustered atop the leaderboard, all within 4 reps of each other.
Over the weekend, Garet Hil submitted a new video to boost his score by 14 reps and secure the first-place position. On Kevin Kilkenny’s third attempt, he was able to boost his score and edge out Jon Sullenberger for third place while Justin King’s third workout attempt bumped his score by 2 reps, securing his second-place finish.
In the women’s donor category, Donor Games veteran Mimi Mahon locked up first place with an untouchable score of 44, while Darlene Magsino and Roni Hays battled it out for second place. Roni took the second-place spot early on, but on the last day of the competition Darlene bested her with an impressive score of 21. Later that same evening, with just hours left in the competition, Roni posted another video, raising her bench press reps by 2 and pulling even with Darlene, creating a tie for second place.
Donor Games regular Scott Claybrook took first place in the transplant recipient men’s division with a score of 14 and Samantha Hil won the women’s division with 7 reps.
In the general categories, two Donor Games regulars took the top podium spots. Shaphen Robinson blew away the competition with a score of 53 and Shelby Donahue turned in a score of 45, edging out second-place winner and Donor Games newcomer Kimberly McMahan by 2 reps.
